Carlisle Custom Compact Power Jam

May 4-6, 2001

as told by Justin Hughes

SPOC NE was represented by Brian Austin, with his 95 SL2; myself, who rode with Brian and donated my SC2 alloy rims for the trip; and Shawn Loan, who brought his already modified 2001 SW2. It was a great time, with great Saturn turnout despite some no-shows, and the chance for a wide cross section of the Saturn performance community to meet, talk cars, oogle women, and encourage burnouts by the SPOC tent.

Brian and I left early in the morning and got busted before we even left Mass. OK, not really. We made a fuel stop in Springfield, and what was parked outside but a Saturn L-300 security car! I chatted it up with Loretta, the security guard, and convinced her to pose the car under the lights for this shot. It didn't take much convincing! Loretta really likes the L-300, and was very excited about what we were doing.

Once the sun rose, Brian and I had to speed up to get close enough to this Porsche Carrera 4 to snag a picture.

Then we had to slow down and let him catch up to get this shot.

OK, OK, back to the Saturn stuff...

We arrived at Carlisle on Friday morning and shined up the car a bit. I think it looks real good lowered and with alloys! So did others, apparently - Brian ended up winning second place in the GM, 1996 and under, mild modifications class!

Soon we ran into Keith McKeever of SPOC PA, who became our tour guide for the rest of the day.

Keith had attempted to arrange a "Tour de Sutliff," a cruise through most of the Saturn dealerships owned by John Sutliff with a mini car show at each one. Unfortunately, Keith's contact neglected to actually inform any of the dealers that we were coming! Though rather disappointing, it was still a fun chance to cruise a fleet of Saturns around the area. One of the dealers did throw together an impromptu tour for us, which was interesting.

On to the day of the show...
