Garage Day and OBD Tech Session at Jon's Place

September 23, 2001

Jon Grabbe has graciously offered to open up his garage in Merrimack, NH to us for yet another garage day! As always, the list of projects is variable, and depends a lot on who shows up when and what we have time to do. If there's something you want to do on your car, hop on the e-mail list and let us know! Jon will provide donuts in the morning, and we'll pool our resources together for a small cookout for lunch.

Along with the usual array of projects, Justin Hughes will give a demonstration of the on-board diagnostics systems on our Saturns, as well as how to retrieve trouble codes yourself. In OBD-I cars (1991-1995), it's as easy as jumping two terminals together and watching the SES light flash. OBD-II cars (1996 on) don't do that, but we'll have OBDScan available on a laptop computer that will let us retrieve and reset OBD-II trouble codes.

Hmmm, maybe I should have had that last slice of
pizza.
Yes, it'll even plug into a Honda.

Is the SES light in your car on? Perfect! Bring your car, and we'll use it as a demo. And best of all, we'll be able to diagnose the problem ourselves, rather than having to shell out $60-80 to have a dealer do it.

The festivities begin no earlier than 8:00am, and run until Jon kicks us out!
